Microsoft is set to pay an undisclosed amount to acquire the music streaming services Beats Music and Spotify, according to a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
The purchase, expected to close by the end of the year, is the largest in the company’s history.
Microsoft is the world’s largest music service provider and has more than 200 million users.
It acquired Beats Music in September 2015, becoming the largest music streaming platform in the world.
The purchase is subject to approval by the U.S. Federal Trade Commission.
Apple’s acquisition of Beats Music came as it tried to broaden its music business beyond streaming music to a range of consumer products, including a television set.
Apple also has the rights to use Beats music for iPhones, iPads and Mac computers.
